LG OLED Recognised for 11th Consecutive Year, Earns Three 2023‘Best of Innovation’ Awards

LG Electronics (LG) has been recognised for the technological and design excellence of its latest lifestyle solutions, earning more than two dozen CES® 2023 Innovation Awards, including three coveted Best of Innovation Awards for LG OLED in the computer peripherals, gaming and video display categories.

Bestowed every year by the Consumer Technology Association (CTA) – the organisation behind CES, the world’s largest annual consumer electronics tradeshow – the CES Innovation Award program recognises innovative consumer products and services across a multitude of device and technology categories.

Of the 28 honors LG will receive at CES 2023, 10 went to LG OLED TVs, marking the 11th consecutive year that the company’s self-lit TVs have received CES Innovation Awards. LG OLED TVs, known to offer a variety of viewing experiences to consumers with its diverse innovative form factors, are prized by consumers worldwide for their exceptional picture quality, which delivers vibrant, accurate colors, deep blacks and infinite contrast.

The 88-inch LG SIGNATURE OLED 8K TV was recognised in three categories, while inspiring ultra-large 97-inch OLED and LG OLED Flex, a groundbreaking TV boasting the world’s first bendable 42-inch OLED screen, were double honorees.

LG home appliances named CES 2023 Innovation Award winners include the LG PuriCare Aero Furniture, a new concept in air purification. Also honored is the premium LG CordZero All-in-One Tower with Steam Mop.

Among other winning products are the LG WashTower™ Compact, LG UltraGear™ OLED gaming monitor and LG XBOOM 360 bluetooth speaker system.

WHY LG’S ULTRAGEAR MONITORS ARE GEARED FOR THE GAMING AGE

WHY LG’S ULTRAGEAR MONITORS ARE GEARED FOR THE GAMING AGE

Whether you’re a casual gamer looking for a fun way to pass the time or a hardcore veteran with a gaming rig that can run anything on maximum graphics, there’s something for everyone in today’s gaming age. The gaming industry is getting bigger and better every year. In fact, in 2021 it was estimated that there were a staggering 3.24 billion gamers across the globe.

But diving head-first into the wonderful world of gaming is about more than having a good gaming PC that can keep up with next-generation graphics. Every worthy game deserves a great display to showcase its beauty. And, for gamers looking for a competitive edge, the right display can certainly mean the difference between winning or losing. LG’s UltraGear monitors offer more than just pretty pictures: they’re geared for the gaming age, and here’s why.

The need for speed

For truly immersive gaming experiences, gamers want seamless and responsive interactions that make them feel connected with the game world. And, when it comes to gaming displays, there’s more to consider than just the screen’s resolution. Of course, the difference between playing on an HD screen and in stunning 4K is not something to overlook: 4K resolution (which has 3840×2160 pixels) has more than eight times the number of pixels than a standard HD display (which has 1280×760 pixels). But, beyond having more pixels to feast your eyes on, refresh rate and response time also need to be considered.

Refresh rate (measured in Hz) tells us how many times a monitor displays a new image each second. When paired with a PC that can handle a high frame rate (or Frames Per Second), a higher refresh rate results in smoother on-screen motion. A low refresh rate, on the other hand, can have a negative impact on in-game performance due to stuttering images or screen tearing. While most monitors run at only 60Hz, LG’s UltraGear monitors can offer up to 144Hz – and some models can even be overclocked to a blisteringly-fast 165Hz.

Response time refers to how quickly the pixels of your monitor to shift from one colour to another. Ideally, you want response time to be as low as possible since any delay will cause ghosting or blur. LG’s UltraGear gaming monitors boast a response time of only one millisecond – the industry lowest and a first for nano in-plane switching (IPS) monitors. They also have a feature called Dynamic Action Sync, which reduces input lag, making the display more responsive to the inputs you make on your keyboard or controller.

Variable Refresh Rate technology

Having a high refresh rate and a low response time (with low input lag) are a winning combination that can take gaming experiences to whole new level of immersion. But there’s also an essential software component every monitor needs to be geared for gaming purposes: Variable Refresh Rate (VRR).

AMD’s FreeSync and NVIDIA’s G-Sync (depending on what graphics card you have) are adaptive syncing technologies designed to synchronise your monitor’s refresh rate to match the frames-per-second output of your computer. LG’s UltraGear monitors all feature AMD’s FreeSync and NVIDIA’s G-Sync to provide the smoothest gaming experiences without screen tearing.

Geared for next-gen gaming

LG unveiled their nano IPS display technology in 2019, which uses a layer of nanoparticles in the backlighting to deliver high image quality with more rapid response time. This panel technology, which comes with many of LG’s best-in-class UltraGear monitors, has become a go-to choice for serious gamers because of its stunning colour reproduction, great viewing angles, and excellent response times.

Ultimately, you don’t want a monitor that only serves as a bottleneck to your next-gen hardware – or one that simply doesn’t do justice to the spectacular visual experiences today’s best games have to offer.
