As far as embarrassing results go, Gavin Hunt has suffered one of the worst in his coaching careers.
At least the Kaizer Chiefs coach admitted as much in the aftermath of yet another shocking defeat to a lowly side by Amakhosi.
The Soweto giants have plunged depths of despair and sorrow in recent season, going on their sixth season without a trophy.
But the 2-1 loss to GladAfrica Championship in the Nedbank Cup first round ranks among the worst in the club’s rich history.
“Ja, the first word that comes to me is ’embarrassing’ you know,” said Hunt.
“On a personal level, I don’t think I have ever lost to a first division side in 26‚ 27 years. So it was a bit embarrassing from that perspective.”
When Chiefs lost to then first division TS Galaxy in the 2019 Nedbank Cup final, club supremo Kaizer Chiefs described it as the lowest point since he formed the mighty Amakhosi.
Many are certainly wondering how he would have taken the latest result.
For, this loss cannot be viewed in isolation.
The team has been in decline for several years now and the appears to be no light at the end of the tunnel.
Something certainly got to give.
