Chippa United chairman Siviwe “Chippa” Mpengesi couldn’t care less about Luc Eymael’s controversial past. Mpengesi has appointed the Belgian, who has previously been accused of racism, as the team technical advisor.
This has followed the dismissal of Dan Malesela following the Chilli Boys’ 5-1 crushing defeat at the hands of Maritzburg United at the weekend.
Siyabulela Gwambi has been named interim head coach.
The SA Football Association had vowed to bar Eymael from coaching in South Africa, following the racist comments he made while working in Tanzania last year.
But Mpengesi has refused to dwell much on Eymael’s decisive past.
“We have also sought necessary clearances from the SA Football Association on his appointment,” said Mpengesi.
In a statement, the club further said:
“Chippa United Football Club would like to announce that it has reached an amicable decision to part ways with Dan Malesela, with this decision effective immediately.
We would like to thank Mr Malesela for his contribution to the Club and to wish him well in his future endeavours.
The Club has also appointed well-travelled Luc Eymael in a Technical Advisor role where he will play an integral mentorship role for the technical team. Gwambi, who is from Zwide, has been a part of the Club coaching structures since 2015. He was promoted to the senior team having coached in the team’s youth structures and the Diski Challenge team.”
Chippa next face log leaders Mamelodi Sundowns at Sisa Dukashe Stadium in East London on Monday.
