Benni McCarthy has been returned to the PSL to take up the position as AmaZulu head coach with immediate effect.

McCarthy takes over the reins, following the voluntary stepping down of Ayanda Dlamini.

He has been without a job since leaving Cape Town City last season.

The appointment means that interim coach Allan Freese will assume revert back to his role as an assistant coach.

The appointment of McCarthy is the clearest sign yet that Usuthu intent secure a top-four finish in the Dstv Premiership.

“McCarthy comes with the right combination of experience and qualifications we believe will assist us in achieving the goals we have set for ourselves,” said AmaZulu boss Zungu.

”The president and the club did not have to sell me this vision. The fact that they want to not only impact the current squad of players but also the younger players who are still building their careers because I was once a young player myself and we must support those players,” said McCarthy.

”I’m highly optimistic that we will achieve the goals we have set for ourselves.”
